Chinese officials attempt to establish ties with Trump campaign — FT.

Chinese officials fail to organize meetings with representatives of Donald Trump's campaign team and his confidants
China has tried to establish ties with Donald Trump's team by using Cui Tiankai, who was the ambassador in Washington during the Trump administration. However, these efforts have not yielded significant success, according to information from eight people familiar with the situation in the US and China, reports the Financial Times.
The head of the Chinese political initiative at the America First Policy Institute argues that meetings with Chinese officials were of "very little benefit." Trump's views on China are well known, and there is a risk that the meetings would be "misinterpreted," he says.
Beijing realizes that US policy is unlikely to become less harsh, regardless of who wins the election. Trump plans to introduce high tariffs on Chinese exports, whereas Kamala Harris, his opponent from the Democratic Party, has recently stated that "America, not China" will win the competition in the 21st century.
The Chinese have unsuccessfully sought opportunities to establish contacts with Trump's team. There is an opinion that they are simply gathering intelligence rather than seeking real discussions with Washington.
