Finland Shows New Fence at the Border with Russia.

Finland has Completed Construction of the First Part of the Fence at the Border with Russia
Finland has successfully completed the first phase of constructing a protective fence at the border with Russia, stretching 35 km and standing 4.5 meters tall. This information was released by the Border Guard Service of the country, as reported by Euractiv based on data from 'Glavkom'.
The commencement of work occurred last year due to an increase in the number of migrants trying to cross the eastern border. The Finnish authorities believe that this influx was intentionally provoked.
«The main goal of the fence is to control a large mass of people if they attempt to enter Finland from Russia,» said Antti Virta, Deputy Chief of the Southeast Finland Border Guard.
According to plans, Helsinki intends to extend the fence to 200 km, currently, this is only part of the lengthy border of more than 1300 km, which divides the two states.
In 2021, about 1300 migrants from third countries arrived via Russia at the Finnish border, mainly from Syria and Somalia, to seek asylum. Finland suspended crossings at the border with Russia and began building the fence to prevent similar situations.
After the closure of the border at the end of 2023, the flow of migrants at the border almost ceased, however, the construction of the fence continues. Its completion is planned for the end of 2026.
Analyzing the material, it can be noted that Finland is actively responding to the increasing number of border crossings and attempts of unauthorized entry into its territory. The construction of the protective fence is one of the measures aimed at ensuring the country's security and controlling migration processes.
