According to the US National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), Chinese intelligence is actively recruiting current and former American public servants. NCSC states that recruitment is carried out through consulting firms, corporate headhunters, think tanks, and other organizations that present themselves on social and professional networking sites. Reuters reports on this.
Entities of foreign intelligence, particularly in China, are recruiting current and former employees of the US government, posing as consulting firms, corporate headhunters, think tanks, and other organizations on social and professional networking sites.NCSC warns current and former federal employees about such approaches, as the tactics of Chinese intelligence have become 'more sophisticated' regarding the recruitment of individuals with experience in the Ukrainian government. NCSC representatives emphasize that public servants who have access to classified information must protect it after leaving federal service. In turn, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that no official information has been received regarding such recruitments and accuses the United States of espionage.
Ministry spokesman Lin Jian describes the actions of the US as 'irresponsible practice' and states that Washington has engaged in 'global espionage without any concealment.'
