The Italian government has declared a state of emergency in the flood zone
On Saturday, September 21, the Italian government declared a state of emergency in the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche following devastating floods this week. Authorities approved the allocation of 20 million euros for immediate rescue work and assistance to the victims. This was reported by ANSA.
«Along with the state of emergency, which will last for 12 months, the government allocated 20 million euros for immediate priority measures, rescue works, and providing assistance to the population, as well as for restoring the functioning of services and infrastructure», – he added.
The state of emergency covers the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena, and Rimini.
Many affected areas had already suffered destruction during the May floods when unprecedented rainfall resulted in the death of 17 people and caused billions of euros in damage.
