Ukraine and the USA discuss the expansion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

Ukraine and the USA are considering the possibility of cooperation in the construction of the third and fourth power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing comments from the Vice President of the Energy Club, Ivan Hryhoruk.
According to the expert, the project involves relocating two nuclear reactors from Bulgaria and adapting them to Ukrainian conditions.
'Currently, it is impossible to say what exactly the format will be, because today the negotiation process is ongoing. However, I am confident that there could be even three formats, as you mentioned, including technological, financing, and support during the implementation process, including engineering support,' Gryhoruk noted.
The expert emphasized that Ukraine has significant experience in adapting Soviet reactors to American fuel.
'To date, Ukraine has quite a large experience in converting its VVER-1000 nuclear reactors to Westinghouse fuel. In fact, this technology for adapting Soviet nuclear reactors to operate on Westinghouse fuel has been successfully used at various plants for many years,' he said.
Gryhoruk also commented on the timelines and costs of the project.
'The timelines depend on the completion of project documentation and the corresponding design and research works at the actual sites. However, it is stated that for unit X-3, it is about three years, and for unit X-4, 4.5-5 years, which is quite optimistic,' the expert reported.
According to him, the estimated cost of the project is around 2 billion dollars. Gryhoruk suggests that some amount will be drawn from foreign partners.
