Ukrainians in temporarily occupied territories will be prohibited from getting married without a Russian passport.

A new law on the status of foreign citizens comes into effect in Russia
As of February 5, 2025, a new law comes into effect in Russia regarding the legal status of foreign citizens in the country. According to this law, Ukrainians who are in temporarily occupied territories and have not obtained a Russian passport or changed their citizenship will not be able to formalize their relationships. This was reported by the National Resistance Center.
The message states that 'the Kremlin has hit a new bottom in its attempts to completely assimilate the population of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. From February 5, Ukrainians who have not received a Russian passport and have not changed their citizenship will be prohibited from formalizing their relationships.'
The law also stipulates that starting in 2025, foreigners and stateless persons who are on the territory of Russia without legal grounds (including the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine) will be deported.
Also, from February 5, 2025, a registry of controlled individuals in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine will come into force, which will include Ukrainians without a Russian passport.
If the registry contains information about a Ukrainian who has not obtained a Russian passport, they will have to leave the locality or obtain legal grounds for residence. Residents of these territories without a Russian passport will also be prohibited from using banks, registering property, driving vehicles, and getting married.
It is reminded that three gang members who killed a family with a 4-year-old boy from Kyiv in May 2023 were sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
