Zelensky commented on Ukraine's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention is a signal to partners regarding the threat posed by anti-personnel mines. The evening address on June 29 solidified the corresponding decision of the National Security and Defense Council. Zelensky also noted that Russia has never been a participant in this convention and cynically uses mines, including during the war against Ukraine. This, according to the president, is the 'signature style of Russian killers.'

'Russia has never been a participant in this convention and extremely cynically uses anti-personnel mines. Moreover, not only now in the war against Ukraine. This is the signature style of Russian killers - to destroy lives by any means possible,' Zelensky emphasized.

The decision to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention also sends a signal to partners about the importance of anti-personnel mines as a tool of defense in the face of threats from the RF and other states.

Ukraine is withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention to emphasize the threat posed by mines and to make clear to its partners what to pay attention to in conditions of modern military confrontation.
